Our Opinion:

If you own a TDM system, the ISA428 offers a very cost effective solution for adding preamps to your interfaces. With the optional A/D expansion board, the 4 mic pres and 4 line inputs will Interface with hard disk systems digitally, via ADAT or AES/EBU. Usefully, the ISA 428 routes to both the analogue and digital outs simultaneously and the soft limiter is available on all 8 of the digital channels. It has clear Level metering via the 4 VU's and 4 led bars and as with the ISA 430mk2 it offers switchable input impedance, which is extremely useful. This unit is a firm favourite for recording acoustic guitar - Just plug it in and listen to the results! If you're not sure if you need one, just add up the cost of 4 channels of mic pre alone and it all makes sense.
